The birth father is described as a 19 year old, never married, ½ Mexican, ½ Mongolian male, with brown/hazel eyes, dark brown hair, 5’8’’ tall, 131lbs, and a tan complexion.  He graduated high school and currently works at Target.  His personality is described as quiet and understanding.  He does not identify with a specific religion.  He is in good mental and physical health.  He does not have a history of mental illness.

Reasons for Choosing Adoption

The birth parents are both in agreement with the adoption plan for their child.  They believe that adoption is in the child’s best interest, as they are currently struggling financially to care for themselves and don’t feel it would be responsible for them to raise a child at this time.  In addition, they are a very young couple and feel that they are not currently equipped to care for a child.  Both birth parents already relinquished their parental rights to Premier Adoption on 7/20/18.

Health of Baby/Medical Information

The baby was born at 27 weeks gestation, weighing 2lbs 6 ounces. He is receiving lower respiratory support through nose only. He had a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (picc line) inserted on July 24th. He had a blood transfusion on July 23rd for low hemoglobin. His initial head ultrasound showed no brain bleeds. They will do another head ultrasound in 1 week and then again before discharge. He is currently on a feeding tube. His overall health is described as fine and they say he looks like a typical premature baby.

Prenatal Care

The birth mother reported that she only became aware of her pregnancy two weeks prior to giving birth.  Therefore, she did not receive any prenatal care. Besides giving birth to the baby boy at 27 weeks gestation, the birth mom did not experience any complications during pregnancy.  She reported that she went into pre-term labor and that her water broke before they were able to attempt to stop her contractions.

Substance Abuse

Birth mom reported use of Advil, Excedrin, and Tylenol during pregnancy for pain.  She did not report the use of any other harmful drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or prescription medication during pregnancy.

She reports wearing corrective lenses for nearsightedness.

The following expenses will be associated with this case (paid to the agency):

  1. Matching/file activation fee (due upon acceptance of match)

  2. $3,500.00 estimated birthparent living/medical expenses (due upon acceptance of match).

  3. Final agency fee. Based on sliding scale. (Due 4 weeks before due date. Funds will be deposited when birthmother signs relinquishment document.)

Attorney fees are paid directly to the attorney.

Legal Risks

As the birthmother is not married and therefore there is no legal father, a John Doe termination is recommended to terminate rights on any possible father. In the state of Nevada this process can take 3 to 4 months (after placement) and attorney fees are approximately $2,000-$4,000 (estimate)

The adoptive family has the choice to finalize in the state of Nevada. An attorney will be needed for this process. The adoptive family will not need to travel to Nevada for the adoption finalization as the attorney and agency will be attending court on their behalf. Finalization in Nevada cannot take place until the child has been in the home for six months.

The adoptive family also has the option to finalize in their home state. They will need to speak to their adoption attorney in their state to make sure Nevada legal documents will be accepted.
