Domestic Program
Overview
Our domestic adoption program is one of the greatest strengths of Premier Adoption Agency. We believe that every child is of infinite worth, and that birthmothers provide a priceless gift in offering their baby to a loving couple. We honor each birthmother for her incredible sacrifice. Other agencies may offer discounted fees to families who adopt children with special needs, or children who are not of the adoptive parents racial background. We are proud to offer the same low fees for every adoption, recognizing that all human life is infinitely valuable.
Premiers commitment to all partners in the adoption triad, including the child, the birthmother and the adoptive parents brings about some added benefits to each adopting family.
- Our special approach of assessment and counseling with each birthmother is proven to reduce the risk of failed placement.
- Adoptive families are presented with all medical, social and financial information about any case before making a decision to proceed.
- Your confidentiality is securely guarded.
- Premier Adoption Agency will only work with up to 40 adopting families at any given time. Not only does this make it easier for us to meet your needs, it also makes your wait time much shorter than it would be in an agency dealing with hundreds or thousands of clients.
- Our fantastic outreach program brings in a fairly good cross section of all races and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Our counseling and assistance to birthmothers, including housing if necessary, medical care, and life planning and development mean a healthier birthmother and a healthier child for each adoptive family.
Who Can Adopt?
Married couples and single women may adopt. Generally there are no age restrictions. Please ask if you have any concerns.
Children Available
Primarily newborns. Ask if you are interested in adopting an older child.
How long Does It Take To Receive A Child?
Because we allow each birthmother to select the adopting family, nobody can predict exactly when matching will occur. We also have found no rule that universally applies to what attributes birth parents are looking for (i.e.: age, number of children, ethnicity, external appearances, socio-economic standing, religion, etc.). Your child will come from a young lady who feels comfortable with your type of family. Please note that our limited number of adopting families can make your wait time shorter. Additionally we have birthmothers who ask us to select the family. Since we have a number of cases like this each year, families that have been waiting longest are given priority and moved through the process.
The Process
After receiving your application and first installment of the agency fee ($5,000) we will assist you in making preparations for your home study completion/approval and or review as well as help start your family profile. After you have completed the forms outlining all of your preferences and have a working family profile, we will begin showing your profile to eligible birth parents. When your family is selected we will contact you and give you all of the information possible to help you decide if you would like to proceed with a particular situation. You will be given social and medical histories and total projected expenses. We will also help facilitate any phone communication or face to face meetings should BOTH parties desire. If you decide to proceed with a given adoption then you would reimburse the agency for prior expenses for the birth parents and commit to continued financial support to term. If for ANY reason you are not comfortable with an adoption referral then we will keep looking (no blacklists no problems). Once a birthmother/ family match is made we continue to facilitate communication needs and requests (if applicable) while waiting for the baby to be born. The birth process may or may not involve the adopting family. After birth there is usually a mandatory waiting period to sign relinquishment of parental rights. What happens during relinquishment and hospital time is usually dictated by the birth parents birth plan. If interstate travel is required, plan on a ten day trip to complete all necessary paperwork (ICPC). If such travel is not necessary then the family can return home immediately after the childs release from the hospital. Finalization of the adoption varies depending on your state of residence but usually consists of submitting post-placement supervisory visits and adoption paperwork to your local courts.
Costs
Total agency fees- $12,500 to $20,500 (D.O.I)* Birthmother expenses vary (a rough average might be around $5,000). In addition, families are required to pay for pre- and post-placement supervisory, legal expenses and travel expenses (if applicable).
